Over 8 pct. of cyberattacks originate in Netherlands

A total of 8.3 percent of worldwide cyber attacks in the second quarter of this year originated in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is thereby third on the rankings, behind Russia - 51 percent of all attacks - and the United States - 12 percent of attacks. This is according to figures from online security firm Kaspersky, based on the attacks blocked by the firm's software. Kaspersky blocked a total of 379.9 million cyber attacks during the second quarter of this year. A massive 31.5 million of these attacks originated in the Netherlands. The number of cyber attacks that attempt to gain access to bank accounts declined in the second quarter. The security firm received a total of 5.9 million notifications of these attacks. That is 800 thousand less than in the first quarter of 2015. On the other hand, the number of malware programs targeting mobile phones is increasing. A total of 291,800 new mobile phone malware programs were launched in the second quarter, almost three times as many as in the previous quarter.
