Father missing after son's water rescue
A 50 year old man disappeared under water in the Kommerdijk in Gendt on Wednesday after rescuing his 24 year old son. Police and fire department divers searched for the man for almost two hours, but found no sign of him.
According to the police, the 24 year old son got into trouble because of the strong currents between the cribs. The young man's father jumped into the water to help him. The father and a bystander managed to get the son to the side, but the father was pulled in by the currents and disappeared under water.
The police received a report that someone may be in trouble around 5:00 p.m. The emergency services immediately brought the boat traffic to a halt and started searching for the man. There was no sign of him. The Waal was released around 6:45 p.m.
