Cop hurt in latest football riot; several arrested

A police officer was injured in one of several incidents after the match between NAC and Roda JC in Breda on Sunday. A total of 7 supporters were arrested. According to the police, NAC supporters tried to reach Roda supporters in the stadium immediately after the match - around 5:20 p.m. The police managed to prevent this, which led to the NAC supporters trying again outside the stadium. The police were well prepared, and with the help of the riot police, managed to keep the two groups apart. During these disturbances, one man pushed a police officer from his horse with a steel pipe. Both the officer and the horse fell down. The officer injured his ribs and had to go to the hospital to be examined. The horse was unharmed. The suspect, a 43 year old from Breda, was arrested for assault and public violence. A 23 year old man from Breda also tried to hit a police officer with a steel pipe during the turmoil. He managed to escape in the crowd, but was quickly found and arrested with the help of surveillance camera footage. The police also arrested 5 other NAC supporters for acts of violence, destruction and insult. All 7 suspects are in custody for questioning. The Roda supporters were able to safely leave Breda in 15 buses around 6:30 p.m.
