Amber Alert triggered for missing 14-year-old girl
Update, 23:00, 25 May 2015: Investigators found the missing teenager at a home in Diemen, Noord-Holland, police said. Two men in the home, aged 35 and 60 were arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
The police have triggered an Amber Alert for missing 14 year old Marilyn from Hardinxveld-Giessendam. The girl never returned home after school on Friday.
According to the police, Marilyn may have taken a train to Amsterdam, Utrecht or Rotterdam. So far they have found no trace of the girl. The police have spoken to her family, friends and acquaintances and have spread her photo through the police units and social media.
Marilyn is about 1.64 meters tall with blonde hair and a noticeable scar on her left cheek. At the time of her disappearance she was wearing a black skirt, black leggings, a blue denim blouse and a sea-blue "biker" jacket.
According to NU, this is the first time that the police have chosen to send a regional Amber Alert. Messages about Marilyn were sent to target groups, such as police and public transport, in the regions of Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Flevoland.
Usually an Amber Alert goes out to everyone signed up to receive such messages across the Netherlands, but the police chose not to do so as there is evidence that the missing girl is in one of these four provinces. On average the nationwide Amber Alert is used 3 or 4 times a year. The police trigger such an alert when they fear that the life of a missing or abducted child is in immediate danger.
The Amber Alert was founded 6 years ago and more than 2.5 million Dutch people are connected to the system and participate in the search for missing children.
