Turkey sold as lamb meat latest Dutch food fraud case

Four butchers in The Hague have been selling turkey meat as lamb. Turkey meat is much cheaper than ham. This is according to a study done by the KRO television program Keuringsdienst van Waarde, NU reports. The program purchased pre-cut lamb from 10 different butchers in the city and then tested the meat's DNA. In four cases they found turkey. The episode will broadcast on Thursday night. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, NVWA, would very much like to know which four butchers are involved. A spokesperson told the newspaper that this is the first report of turkey meat sold as lamb. This story is reminiscent of the recent horse meat scandal, where meat processor Willy Selten sold horse meat as beef.
