Jumbo to accept contactless payment

The supermarket chain Jumbo claims to be the first Dutch grocery store to allow contactless purchases in all of its stores, the company said in a statement on Friday. New debit card machines installed over the next few weeks will work with the newer generation of bank cards, the company promised. The new method is expected to save an average of five seconds per transaction, the store says. A PIN must be entered for single purchases over 25 euros, or if several contactless purchases combine for over 50 euros. However, the card will not have to be plugged into the machine. The limit is reset after a PIN is correctly entered. "In addition, the system is ready for future developments, which will allow customers to pay via their mobile phone," Jumbo stated. They did not say which mobile phone payment processor they plan to support.
