Dutch embassy in Yemen shuts on security concern

The Dutch embassy in Sana'a in Yemen has been temporarily closed due to political tensions in the country. The embassy's staff has already left the country. Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs informed the House of Representatives about his decision to close the embassy in a letter yesterday afternoon. "The situation in Yemen is unpredictable at the moment", Koenders said. "The ongoing political tensions and the risk of violence flaring up again have led me to temporarily close the embassy in Sana'a. I regret having to take this step" The minister added that his responsibility for the safety of our people was the deciding factor. "We want to return to Yemen as soon as possible, and I hope the situation there stabilizes soon."
