Integration course must focus on free speech: Labour MP

According to PvdA Parliament Member Ahmed Marcouch, the integration course must pay more attention to the importance of freedom of expression. He said this to NU.nl following the recent attacks on the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris. According to Marcouch, the integration course should make clear what the Netherlands thinks on the freedom of expression. "Paris has shown that the pen stands against the Kalashnikov", Marcouch said. "We must make it clear that in the Netherlands the government is cautious about what can and can not, but that possible anger can always be expressed with the pen. Violence is not acceptable." The Chamber will debate intergration this morning with Minister Lodewijk Asscher of Social Affairs.
