Man who crashed into eight girls cycling caught

A 46-year-old man has made a statement after being apprehended as a suspect in a police investigation. The Someren man is suspected to be the driver of a car which caused an accident at about 9:15 p.m. on Friday January 9th at Lavallestraat in Someren, Noord-Brabant. The accident involved a car hitting a group of eight cyclists from behind, causing two 14-year-old girls to be taken to hospital. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene. A damaged car was reported to authorities by witnesses on Saturday January 10th in the early afternoon, which is now believed to be the car involved in the accident, following forensic examination. The police then received a report of a man found on a bench at midday on Sunday January 11th. He had told passer-by's that he had been involved in an accident, and asked them to call the police. After being brought to police offices, they discovered the man had slept outside for two nights, and was subsequently unwell and suffering from hypothermia. He was sent home, but returned the next day to make a statement. The police have reported that he admitted to his involvement in the accident.
