Floating buoy cocaine bust brings arrest

Investigators tracing the origin of 1,200 kilograms of cocaine found floating in the Westerschelde river in Zeeland last month arrested a 22-year-old from Montenegro in connection with the case. Identified only as S.K. by prosecutors, he was arrested on January 4th as a suspect in the importation of 1,200 kilograms of cocaine. K. is a crew member of a cargo ship, and authorities say his fingerprints were found on the packages of drugs. A judge remanded the man into custody for 90 days while the investigation continues. The drugs were found on December 8th after a report of flashing lights on the Westerschelde. It turned out to be a homemade buoy on which a large number of bags were hung. The bags contained packages of cocaine with a combined value of tens of millions of euros. K. came into the picture during the investigation into the ships in the vicinity of the buoy.
