European farmers will still get help during Russia boycott

The European support measures for farmers affected by the Russian boycott has been extended to June next year. According to State Secretary Sharon Dijksma, the new measures should help agricultural entrepreneurs find a "good, social destination" for their fruits and vegetables. A new budget is available from January 1st with which growers and farmers can get compensation for surpluses. The fee applies for a total of 9,700 tons of apples and pears and some 25 thousand tons of tomatoes, carrots, peppers, cucumbers and gherkins. Branch organization LTO Nederland thinks the amounts that can be reimbursed are too low and below cost price. LTO chairman Albert Jan Maat thinks that the intervention is "insignificant" and will have little effect on the Dutch horticultural sector.
