Man gunned down on Utrecht street

A 44 year old man from Zeist was shot and killed in a car on Duurstedelaan in Utrecht on Friday night. The police suspect a murder. The incident took place at about 19:45 on Friday night on Duurstedelaan. Witnesses report hearing a muffled bang. Two suspects fled the scene after the shooting in a gray Volkswagen Golf. They drove towards Goylaan. The area was immediately closed down and the police deployed a helicopter to look for the vehicle. It is not clear whether this shooting is related to the gang war currently raging in Amsterdam. At least 13 people have been killed since the beginning of the year. The executions are not isolated to only Amsterdam, but also occurred in Amstelveen, Almere, Amersfoort, Zaandam and Beverwijk.
