Ikea staff sweetly petition customers for better wage

This morning the staff at the IKEA store in Delft handed out chocolate money to the customers in the store. The recipients of the sweets were asked to sign a petition for a better collective agreement for the IKEA employees. Recently there were negotiations with the unions on a new collective agreement, partly because IKEA won't offer more than a 0.8 percent wage increase. According to the unions, the working pressure in the IKEA stores to achieve set targets increased substantially last year, despite the fact that workers got their hours cut. "IKEA is not willing to invest in the staff, while it is thanks to their efforts that the company is running so well", says Pieter Beuzenberg, director of FNV Trade. IKEA Netherlands employs approximately 5,500 people.
