Trouw newspaper editor suspended for faking sources

An editor of Trouw has been suspended from the newspaper because he used sources wrongly, or in some cases, even fabricated them. The newspaper could not verify various sources the employee used in articles. "Based on internal investigation, including an adversarial process, it was decided that the editor in question will leave the newspaper", the editorial, under chief editor Cees van der Laan, wrote in the newspaper this morning. The newspaper will have the publications and control on sources examined by a committee of external experts. The editorial: "For Trouw the credibility of the newspaper comes first. Therein lies the reason for this independent investigation." Trouw did not disclose the name of the editor in question, partly at the request of his council.
