No tolls on German border roads

Germany will definitely not impose tolls on local and provincial roads. With this Minister Dobrindt meets the needs of criticism from party sections in the border region. The CDU departments in Rijnland-Palts and Noordrijn-Westfalen, which borders on the Netherlands and Belgium, feared that tourists would stay away if they had to pay tolls in Germany. They also worried about the consequences for hospitality and retail. Tens of thousands of residents of the border region regularly enters Germany to go shopping or to refuel. According to German media Dobrindt gave in. He wants to impose tolls only on highways. Motorists from neighboring countries would not have to pay for the use of local and provincial roads. The Minister will probably present the final bill on Friday. After criticism from Brussels and The Hague, he assured that his plan will be legally feasible and consistent with EU rules.
