"Cannabis stench" leads police to €27k cash

On Monday night the police stopped a car in Maastricht for a traffic control check and found a large amount of money. The officers could smell a strong odor of cannabis in the car. The 39 year old male passenger refused to identify himself and the police asked him to step out of the vehicle for an identity body search by the officers. The man refused to remove his coat and made a run for it. While he was running the suspect threw away a pack of notes. After a short chase the man was arrested. On closer inspection the police found that the man had a large amount of money on his person - a total amount of 26,585 euro. The suspect was arrested for money laundering and violations of the Opium Act.
