Bomb joke cost airline passenger €750

Joking about a bomb in his bag at Eindhoven airport has ended up costing a man dearly; he had to pay a €750 fine before he could leave for his vacation.

The Marechaussee reported on Tuesday that the 23-year-old Dutchman was in line for security inspection; instructed to open his travel bag, he asked if he also had to take out the bomb he had in there.

Security officials then asked him several times if he was really carrying a bomb and the man kept on saying that he did; the Marechaussee then pulled him out of the line and took him into custody. With the help of a bomb detecting dog, bomb experts searched his bag, but found no explosives.

The man paid his €759 and was then allowed to continue on to his flight to go on vacation. “We do not tolerate these types of jokes,” said Marechaussee spokesman Richard Haarman. He said that nationwide the Marechaussee encounters at least one of these pranksters per month.
