Commercial vacancies causing concern

The PvdA feels that the vacancy of offices, shops and commercial buildings must be addressed. The party wants Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen (Infrastructure) to make a plan with municipalities and provinces. PvdA Member of Parliament Albert de Vries suggested today that owners of vacant properties must be forced to take their losses and to cooperate with demolition or redevelopment plans. According to De Vries the millions of square meters of vacant properties cause degradation and a feeling of insecurity. He also feels that the redevelopment of vacant buildings should be a priority on building plans. According to him the profits that can be made when a building gets a new function, should be used to cover the losses created in the demolition of other buildings.
