Wageningen Univ wants your dead mosquitoes

Wageningen University is doing a research study into the mosquito problem during the summer months. Summer is a prime time for mosquitoes to be a nuisance, but it is unclear which type of mosquito is responsible and how big the problem is compared to previous years. This study will also provide information for assessing the risks of the transmission of pathogenic viruses such as the West Nile virus and dengue fever. According to Wageningen University there are currently no diseases transferred by mosquitoes in the Netherlands, but researchers are monitoring the situation closely. Researchers from Wageningen University therefore calls on the public to report observations of mosquitoes on Muggenradar.nl. There is also a questionnaire to be completed and dead mosquitoes can be sent in for further examination. This can be done between August 28th and September 4th. A mosquito can be recognized by a protruding snout, which other flying insects do not have. At the beginning of this year the Wageningen University also did a study on the mosquito problem during the winter months.
