Aid for new refugees could increase

Coalition parties VVD and PvdA and friendly opposition parties D66, ChristenUnie and SGP want more money to become available for the refugee situation in The Netherlands. According to sources from De Telegraaf, this plan should be in the making by Minister Ploumen of Development Co-operation. The money will go towards making sure that the countries where these refugees originally flee to The Netherlands from will have better infrastructure to accommodate refugees. According to De Telegraaf, there is not an exact figure yet, but it could concern "many dozens of millions of euro." There will also be money for the asylum centers currently set up in The Netherlands. The money will come from the kitty already available within the Ministry of Development and Co-operation. De Telegraaf writes that new international calculation rules have led to the regulation that The Netherlands would have to give €500 million extra to Development Co-operation. The VVD, among others, finds this extreme. Parties are currently discussing the budget with Finance Minister Dijsselbloem to see whether part of this extra reserve money can be given to other issues rather than aid.
