Barbecue accidents on the rise

Dozens of people have suffered serious barbecue relate injuries in the past four months, causing concerns with the Dutch Burn Wounds Foundation.

The Foundation reported that no less than 41 people have been admitted at the three burn wound centers with second and third degree burn wounds. Most of them were caused by people who put flammable fluids on the barbecue set.

“It’s alarming,” said association spokesman Jos Vloerman.

He said he is concerned because there are many more beautiful barbecue days ahead in August and September. Nonetheless the foundation will not be carrying out an awareness campaign this year as it did in previous years. “Not enough people are showing interest in our tips for a safe barbecue,” the Foundation said.

This year it will be carrying out a test, which should teach people what to do when barbecue related mishap.
