KPMG head resigns amidst scandal

The head of KPMG Netherlands, Jurgen van Breukelen, resigned on Monday, he announced in a statement. Van Breukelen came under fire after after a failed real estate project, possible tax fraud with building the new headquarters in Amstelveen, and a joint venture involving an accounting team, which the police are investigating. Van Breukelen writes that he is putting the company's needs first. "The change we are making at KPMG asks for a clear signal that our company is breaking with the recent past of misjudgments and errors. Then it is up to me to empower this signal as a final responsibility." Last month, a criminal investigation was launched into a joint venture between KPMG and a project developer building a new headquarters in Amstelveen, Reuters reports.
