Toyota recalls 26,000 cars

Car manufacturer Toyota has recalled 26,000 vehicles in The Netherlands due to minor faults, but emphasizes there is no need for panic. This is part of a global recall of almost 6.5 million vehicles. The Urban Cruiser and the Yaris models must go back to the garage for various repairs. Vehicles of these models built between June 2005 and August 2010 could have certain faults, such as the mechanism for the adjustment of seats breaking if the mechanism is used too often and not carefully. No reports of faulty chair mechanisms have been reported in The Netherlands, however. Yaris and Urban Cruiser models produced between June 2005 and February 2009 could have steering column bracket damage in which the steering column could move out of position. Steering is still possible and the issue is not directly life-threatening. No incidents have been reported in The Netherlands. Toyota is also calling several models of Hilux, Land Cruiser and Rav4 back for airbag faults. In this case there is a risk of steering damaging a spring cable so that the airbag doesn't work anymore. In The Netherlands, the only complaint for this fault is that the airbag signal would turn on as a result of this defect. Toyota also said faults were found in the Pontiac Vibe and the Subaru Trezia which the company built for General Motors and Fuji Heavy Industries, Reuters reports.
