Ukraine, Russia ministers to meet at NSS
Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed to meet his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriy Deshchytsya during the nuclear security summit, according to a Russian diplomatic source.
Russia annexed Crimea on March 21, after a referendum that was denounced by both Kiev, the U.S. and the EU. Acting President Oleksander Turchinov pulled the remaining Ukrainian troops and their families off the peninsula for fear of their safety. Although observers for the pan-European OSCE security watchdog arrived in the Ukraine, the Russians did not allow them into Crimea. Western officials are more focused on keeping Russia from seizing other parts of the Ukraine, since the NATO noticed a Russian buildup of forces at the Ukrainian border.
