17 medals for the Netherlands at Sochi

Dutch athletes have won 17 medals for the country at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, as Sunday's 'clean sweep' saw the top four places taken up by Oranje. Thanks in part to the stellar performance on Sunday by Dutch women skaters at the 1500 meters, Oranje is now ahead of all other countries with their medal count. Defending champion Ireen Wüst was beaten to the gold by Jorien ter Mors on Sunday. The Dutch women took the first four places in the race, which was viewed by around 4.4 million people. Lotte van Beek won bronze, and Marrit Leenstra was fourth. The winner's podium was entirely Oranje. Maurits Hendrik's team climbed into the medal standings at second place, after Germany who have more gold medals. The Dutch gold medals came from Sven Kramer (5 kilometers), Ireen Wüst (3 kilometers), Michel Mulder (500 meters), Stefan Groothuis (1000 meters) and Jorien ter Mors (1500 meters). Dutch skaters have dominated the podium three times already. Jorien ter Mors was surprised at her winning the long track skating gold, as she has been training longer in the short track. She's not yet satisfied with her gold in the Olympics. "We're not there yet. I definitely hope to go home with a short track medal." Today, two-man bobsledders Edwin van Calker and Bror van der Zijde will be the only Dutch athletes to be in action.
