2013 in top 10 warmest years

2013 is in the top 10 of warmest years globally, according to the World Meteorological Institute of the United Nations (WMO). 2007 and 2013 share the sixth place in the ranking since the institute started keeping records in 1850. The average land and oceanic temperature was 0.5 'C higher last year than the long-term average of 14 'C, making it only slightly lower than the warmest years so far in 2005 and 2010 with 0.55 'C above the baseline.

It has become more rule than exception for the temperature to stay above the baseline, with last year being the 28th time in row. The warmer global temperature in 2013 follows the trend of global warming, according to Michel Jarraud, Secretary General of the WMO, who expects the temperature to keep rising in generations to come.
