More young people to hospital due to alcohol
The number of young people who ended up in hospital because of alcohol, has increased fourfold between 2001 and 2011. This is clear from the Annual Report of the National Drug Monitor of the Trimbos Institute.
In 2001, 263 young people ended up in a hospital with an alcohol related problem. In 2011 the number increased to more than a thousand, 1087 to be specific. According to the Trimbos the reason for the dramatic increase is in part the subject received more attention. Hospitals and pediatricians started focusing more on the issue. Among the nearly 1,100 registered cases were not only young people with alcohol poisoning, but also children who were injured, such as when they fell off their bikes while intoxicated.
