Westbroek Rejected As Mayor Utrecht

Henk Westbroek is not going to be the new mayor of Utrecht. This was told to him by the municipal office of Utrecht on Wednesday. The reason for their decision is that Westbroek does not have enough management experience. The Algemeen Dagblad (AD) in cooperation with the Utrechts Nieuwsblad did a poll about who is the most favorite for the job. In the beginning of October, the singer and presenter, was the most favorite among the readers of the AD. He received 28% of the readers’ votes. Last week, Westbroek was invited to the governor of Utrecht but apparently this didn’t lead to his appointment of mayor of Utrecht. Henk Westbroek already applied two times before for the job of mayor. Before his career as the singer of the band Het Goede Doel and as presenter of various programs on radio and television, Westbroek had been a youth worker in Utrecht. He has always been involved with things going on in his city. 17-year-old Hidde van Koningsveld was also rejected, for the same reasons as Westbroek, for the job. At this moment it looks like either PvdA politician and former union leader Agnes Jongerius or Jan van Zanen of the VVD will become mayor of Utrecht.
