Dutch Embassy Closes in Yemen

Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans has ordered the embassy staff based in Sana'a, Yemen to leave the country. Protest in Sanaa, Yemen (3 February, 2011)
Photo by Sallam from Yemen/Wikimedia Commons On Wednesday night, Timmermans said the evacuation was in response to the latest reports that terrorists are planning to attack some Western countries, including the Netherlands. The Dutch government had earlier decided to close the embassy and run with only four people because of the risky and worsening safety situation in Yemen. The embassy’s 12 emigrants and staff have left Yemen. The ministry said it is a momentary precautionary measure and the situation will be further evaluated after the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.
