Box Office: ‘Despicable Me 2′ grossed $50M

Over the weekend, Universal and Illumination Entertainment sequel Despicable Me 2 came on top together with Man Of Steel, World War Z, and Monsters University. Minions
Leticia/flickr The animated film opened no. 1 in five of its six new territories, totaled at $50 million from the UK and Ireland, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, and Australia. The follow-up to Despicable Me performed very good at the box office, even better than the first movie. It also surpassed sequels from DreamWorks including Madagascar 2 and 3 and the second installment of Kung Fu Panda. In the Netherlands, Despicable Me 2 opened at no. 1. It earned $2.4 million at 131 dates, twice or more than the first movie’s gross. It also opened to no. 1 in the U.K., France, French Switzerland, and Belgium.
