Search for missing 73-year-old halted in Veluwe after wolves spotted in the area

A search for a 73-year-old man missing in the northern Veluwe was suspended Saturday night after wolves were spotted in the search area near Epe, Gelderland, authorities said.

The search, led by rescue organization SAR Nederland, took place Saturday afternoon and evening. Volunteers were looking for the man, who has been missing since Thursday. The effort included tracker teams and search dogs.

According to SAR Nederland, “the operation was halted around 10 p.m. due to the presence of wolves in the search area, but also for the safety of other animals." The man has not yet been found. Volunteers are expected to resume the search Sunday.

SAR Nederland asked local residents to remain alert for the missing man. “We ask residents in Epe and the surrounding area to look out for a man on a red bicycle (with panniers), wearing light blue shorts, grey shoes, a black blouse, and a dark blue jacket,” the organization said.
