Foot found in Beneden-Merwede belongs to missing 16-year-old
A foot found in a shoe Monday in a branch of the Beneden-Merwede River has been identified through DNA testing as 16-year-old Yoran Krol, missing since December 2023, police said Friday. According to Rijnmond, authorities reported no signs of foul play.
Krol was last seen on the night of December 23, 2023, at a youth center in Almkerk. A day after his disappearance, his bicycle was found on the Merwedebrug near Gorinchem, roughly 10 kilometers away. Weeks later, his jacket was discovered in the Merwede River near Papendrecht.
A similar incident occurred in August 2025, when a foot inside a shoe was discovered in a canal in Vlaardingen. Police later confirmed that it belonged to a 42-year-old man from Delft who had been missing since June 2022. Authorities said there were no signs of foul play in that case.
A police spokesperson said the shoe was discovered by a passerby and declined to provide details about the exact location. The spokesperson stated, "There are no indications to assume there has been a crime."
