7 arrested in Arnhem for public violence against climate protesters

Seven people were arrested Sunday after a climate demonstration near the Blauwe Golven in Arnhem was disrupted, the police confirmed. The suspects face charges of public violence.

The protest, organized by Extinction Rebellion and the Party for the Animals, was interrupted when individuals shouted “Arnhem, Arnhem,” threw eggs and tomatoes, ignited fireworks, and set off yellow smoke bombs. Police intervened to control the situation, temporarily halting the demonstration.

Following the arrests, the protest resumed, and demonstrators reached their intended destination at the Watermuseum.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the disruption involved “shouting, throwing eggs and tomatoes, yellow smoke bombs, and fireworks,” noting that the activists were shocked by the violence.
