KNMI issues code orange for ice across most of the Netherlands overnight

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issued an orange alert for icy conditions and slick surfaces across nearly the entire country overnight, excluding Zeeland and Zuid-Holland.

The institute warned of a high risk of accidents due to slippery bridges, roads, bike paths, and sidewalks. "The danger is especially high because the ice is not easily visible," KNMI said.

The warning is expected to last through the morning commute in the northeast, while conditions in other regions should improve quickly from the southwest.

Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians were urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly during early travel hours when the ice may not yet be apparent.
