Eurostar cancels all Dutch routes to London, stranding thousands of passengers

All Eurostar trains between London and the Netherlands have been suspended because of a technical problem with the overhead power lines in the Channel Tunnel, leaving Dutch travelers delayed or stranded. The disruption comes during one of the busiest periods of the year, as many people travel during the holiday season.

Eurostar confirmed that a malfunction on a Le Shuttle train—used to transport cars, trucks, and buses through the tunnel—has compounded the problem. “Due to a power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel and a technical fault on a Le Shuttle train, our trains may face significant delays and last-minute cancellations,” the company said.

A BBC News reporter at London’s St. Pancras station said announcements confirmed that all Eurostar services for the day were canceled.

It remains unclear when service will resume. Trains normally depart from London to Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and Disneyland Paris. Eurostar could not provide figures on how many passengers have been affected.

The suspension affects trains from Amsterdam Centraal via Rotterdam and Brussels to London. Early morning services were delayed for several hours before being canceled. Eurostar advised travelers to reschedule their journeys to another date or cancel for a partial refund.

“We strongly recommend all our passengers reschedule their journey to another date. Please do not come to the station unless you already have a ticket for travel today,” the company added.
