Rotterdam man denies involvement in death of singer S10’s twin brother
A Rotterdam man denied any involvement in the death of Emiel den Hollander, the twin brother of Dutch singer S10 (Stien den Hollander), during a court hearing Monday in Haarlem. The 36-year-old Arny R. is challenging his pretrial detention, which was reviewed at the session. Den Hollander’s mother was also in attendance.
R. told the court he was not present in the Amsterdam flat on Osdorper Ban in April, where prosecutors say the 24-year-old victim was held against his will. Authorities claim Den Hollander saw no escape but to jump from a fourth-floor balcony.
The victim was found severely injured on the roof of a garage beneath the flat on April 16 and died from his injuries on June 19. “I was never in that apartment, and I don’t know him. My life has just been destroyed,” R. said in court, RTL reports.
Four other suspects remain in custody for suspicion of manslaughter and unlawful detention, while a minor suspect has been conditionally released.
Prosecutors expect the investigation to conclude in a few months, with the substantive trial scheduled for the second half of 2026.
R.’s lawyers requested his release from pretrial detention, arguing there is no evidence of manslaughter and that the events inside the flat are unclear. They suggest the victim may have gone to the address voluntarily or accidentally fallen from the balcony. R. acknowledged meeting a co-suspect at a hotel in Hoorn.
The prosecution presented a different account, stating that R. allegedly made preparations with co-suspects the day before Den Hollander’s fall and drove from Osdorp to Zaandam afterward. Prosecutors also revealed a new charge: R. allegedly attempted to break into the homes of the victim’s mother and girlfriend, “possibly in search of something they could not find or obtain,” according to the public prosecutor.
The prosecution opposed R.’s release, arguing that the fact he became a father in October does not outweigh the risk of him remaining in custody. “I couldn’t even be at the birth. That really hurts,” R. said. The court is set to rule Tuesday on whether he will remain detained.
