Farmers store in Zuid-Limburg wins worst slogan of the year award with drug-related pun

The annual worst slogan of the year award was handed out on Thursday. This year, the award, which is a blue tile with the slogan written on it, was given to a farmer's store in Akkerhof for their slogan “Beter dan snuiven… onze pitloze DRUIVEN.” This translates to “better than snorting…our seedless grapes!”, a play on words also referencing the snorting of drugs.

Boerderijwinkel Akkerhof received 1,839 votes out of the total 6,578 votes. The banner with the slogan has been in Zuid-Limburg for years. “We hang up the banner during grape season,” says winner Hélène Kremer from Boerderijwinkel Akkerhof. “Our grapes are just so delicious, you simply can’t resist them. ‘They’re addictive, so tasty. Better to be addicted to grapes than to drugs,’ one of our staff once remarked. That’s how the slogan came about. It wasn’t really intended to reference the local drug issues, although some people will probably make that connection.”

As the winner referenced drug use, the second place, in typical worst slogan fashion, was a sex reference. “Met de juiste sproeier words alles nat!” Received just 22 votes fewer than the winner. The slogan translates to “with the right hose, everything gets wet!” and was coined by R&R Beregeningsinstallaties, which sells sprinkler systems.

Another rhyme came in third. “Soms zit het mee, some zit het tegel” is a play on the Dutch saying “some zit het mee, en soms zit het tegen,” translated to “Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don’t,” in English. The joke is in the word tegel, which means tile, because D.D. Tegelwerken sells, well… tiles.

Three English slogans made the top 10. "Okay BLOOMER, the apartment you DO want to be found dead in" by housing company BLOOMING Oosterhout came fourth. “Pick your Diks & huur een bestelbus” by the car lending company Diks came seventh. And the much more innocent “Gifts on a Whole Mother Level” by Lush in Amsterdam Central Station was likely deemed a little too innocent by the voters; it came 10th out of the 10 voting options.

People were able to vote on the 10 options that had been selected by the jury. Online voting began on December 12 and ended on Thursday morning. It was the 14th time that the award has been handed out. An airconditioning company won the award in 2024, while a bicycle rental store took home the prize in 2023.
