D66 leader Jetten rules out coalition with JA21, VVD; calls center-right path unviable

D66 leader Rob Jetten said Friday that a coalition including VVD and JA21 is not feasible, calling a right-center government "not a workable path."

Jetten’s comments came amid calls from VVD for clarity on whether D66 would consider working with right-wing parties. Speaking to WNL, he dismissed criticism over his previous lack of clarity as "nonsense."

"I have already said several times that there are combinations in which D66 and JA21 could work together. But not a combination consisting of three right-wing parties. Right-center is not a workable path, because it does not hold a majority, neither in the Tweede Kamer nor in the Eerste Kamer," Jetten said.

A meeting Friday between informateur Sybrand Buma and party leaders from D66, VVD, GroenLinks-PvdA, CDA, and JA21 produced no breakthrough. Parties will reportedly use the weekend to reflect and plan to resume talks Monday.
