Feyenoord score seven against Heracles Almelo; Guus Til fires PSV past Go Ahead Eagles
Feyenoord beat bottom-of-the-table Heracles Almelo 7-0 in Almelo on Sunday evening. The Rotterdammers remain three points ahead of PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Eredivisie table after a first-half hat-trick from Ayase Ueda, a brace from Anis Hadj Moussa, and goals from Sem Steijn and Gonzalo Borges gave Robin van Persie’s side a convincing win.
Ueda’s goals came in the seventh, 33rd, and 38th minutes. He is the fourth Feyenoord player to score a hat trick in the first half of an Eredivisie game this century after John Guidetti, Dirk Kuyt, and Santiago Gimenez. He is currently the top scorer of the Eredivisie this season, with 11 goals.
Anis Hadj Moussa got his first goal in the 28th minute after an error from the Heracles keeper Timo Jansink. The Algerian’s shot was straight at the young keeper, but Jansink fumbled it into his own goal. Hadj Moussa got his second in the 59th minute.
Steijn added another before Borges closed off the scoring with his first goal for Feyenoord. The Portuguese winger was played in with plenty of time and space to pick his spot, and he chipped the ball over Jansink to make it 7-0.
It is proving to be an extremely challenging season for Heracles. Bas Sibum’s team has won just one game out of their nine league games this season, losing the other eight.
PSV had done their job to stay within touching distance of Feyenoord by beating Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday. Guus Til, playing as a striker due to an injury crisis amongst the club’s striker options, scored two goals to defeat the KNVB Cup holders.
PSV was saying goodbye to club legend Luuk de Jong in the evening. The striker, who won five league titles in Eindhoven, left the club to join FC Porto last summer.
Both teams will now focus on their European fixtures in midweek. PSV face Italian league champions Napoli at home in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, while Go Ahead Eagles host English Premier League side Aston Villa on Thursday evening in the UEFA Europa League.
It was another entertaining weekend in the Eredivisie. NEC Nijmegen and FC Twente played out an entertaining 3-3 draw on Saturday. Former Vitesse player Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored twice from the spot for Twente, at the ground of his former rivals.
It was another weekend without a 0-0. It is the first time in history that the first 80 matches of an Eredivisie season have not featured a single 0-0 game.
