VVD rules out joining left-leaning cabinet with GroenLinks-PvdA, CDA, and D66
The VVD will not join a cabinet with GroenLinks-PvdA, the CDA, and D66, caretaker Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans said, emphasizing that “this entire bloc” would constitute a left-wing government.
Party leader Dilan Yeşilgöz had previously stated in an interview with De Telegraaf that the VVD would not participate in a cabinet led by Frans Timmermans. Brekelmans reinforced that position during a discussion with Timmermans on the television program Café Kockelmann.
Timmermans, leader of GroenLinks-PvdA, responded to Brekelmans’ statement by calling it “paniekvoetbal,” or “panic play.”
The VVD has struggled in the polls in recent months, averaging just fourteen seats, raising concerns about the party’s influence in upcoming coalition talks.
Brekelmans’ comments underscore the growing political divide, signaling that the VVD is unlikely to participate in a cabinet dominated by left-leaning parties.
