New footage of man wanted for killing Syrian woman in Almere
New footage has emerged of Omar Alhamad, the man wanted for killing 24-year-old Boushra in Almere last month. The police found Alhamad’s car last week after a tip, and that led to new footage of the man, the police said on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.
Boushra disappeared from Almere on August 7. Her body was found a week later in a nature reserve on the outskirts of Almere-Poort. The police believe Alhamad abducted and killed her and then disappeared in his gray Peugeot. The two were married, but separated, and had five children together.
Last week, the police found Alhamad’s car abandoned at an industrial estate in Amersfoort, not far from the Hoevelaken interchange. The man was filmed in the area on August 7, the day of Boushra’s disappearance. The footage, recorded at around 11:30 a.m. that day, shows him walking with two full bags and different clothes than he was wearing earlier that morning.
The police think Alhamad may have dumped clothes and other items somewhere and are hoping for tips.
According to RTL Nieuws, Boushra was 15 or 16 when she married Alhamad in Turkey. She eventually came to the Netherlands with her five children. Alhamad followed later. Boushra was unhappy in the relationship and was living apart from her husband, though she still had contact with him. The police previously described that contact as “forbidden and undesirable.”
The 24-year-old woman was last seen at around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7. She was recorded at a supermarket on Olivier van Noorstraat in Almere, walking with another woman and two of her children. The other woman was to watch the children while Boushra met with Alhamad, according to the broadcaster. “Pray for me,” Boushra texted the woman before she went missing.
At 11:30 a.m., Boushra was supposed to pick up her other children from daycare. The daycare staff alerted the police when she didn’t show up. Boushra was found murdered a week later.
The police have yet to find footage showing Boushra and Alhamad together on August 7, but given their background and the fact that Alhamad was recorded in the area that morning, the police suspect him of murdering her.
The Public Prosecution Service offered a €10,000 reward for information leading to Alhamad’s arrest.
