Amsterdam woman arrested in connection with death of Surinamese man found in Belgium

A 40-year-old woman from Amsterdam was arrested at Schiphol Airport last Sunday in connection with the death of a 41-year-old man from Suriname, police reported on Friday. The man’s body was discovered on the evening of August 15 just across the border in the Belgian town of Meer. The woman is suspected of involvement in his death.

According to police, the woman is not believed to be the only person involved, and further arrests have not been ruled out. The investigation is being carried out jointly by the Dutch and Belgian police as a murder case, with the involvement of a Large-Scale Investigation Team (TGO).

The victim was last seen in Amsterdam on Tuesday, August 5. A week later, a friend reported him missing. In the days leading up to his death, the victim had been in contact with several people, including in Amsterdam and Almere.

The woman remains in custody and is only allowed to have contact with her lawyer, police said.

Police have called on anyone with any relevant information in the case to report it to the police. This can be done directly or via the anonymous reporting center.
