Dutch man charged with child abuse in Albania after dragging daughter by hair

A 33-year-old Dutch man, identified as M.U., faces criminal charges in Albania for dragging his young daughter by her hair in public, police confirmed Sunday. The incident, captured in two photos published by the Korçë police, showed the man pulling the girl along a street while a woman, possibly the child’s mother, walked silently beside them, De Telegraaf reported.

The images, initially shared on social media and described as disturbing, prompted the local police to launch an immediate investigation. Officers obtained the original photos and quickly traced and identified the individuals involved.

Both the man and the woman, seen wearing a headscarf in the footage, were summoned to the police station to provide statements about the incident.

Korçë police confirmed that the man is the girl’s biological father. Authorities have not disclosed why the family was in the region, which lies near the borders with Greece and North Macedonia; speculation suggests they may have been on vacation.

The case file has now been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of First Instance in Korçë, which decided to open formal criminal proceedings against the Dutch father.
