Donkey dies after assault at Clinge petting zoo; police seek suspect
A donkey died Friday evening after being assaulted by a man at a petting zoo located on the grounds of a care facility in Clinge, a village in Zeeland near the Belgian border, Omroep Zeeland reported. The incident is under police investigation, and the suspect remains at large.
According to police, the man is believed to have climbed over the fence of the facility on Hoevedreef before carrying out the assault. The animal did not survive the attack.
Authorities have released a description of the suspect based on security camera footage. He was wearing a white shirt and dark blue, knee-length shorts at the time of the incident.
Due to the ongoing investigation, police have not disclosed the exact nature of the injuries or how the assault occurred. “Wat er precies met de ezel is gebeurd, kan de politie vanwege het onderzoek niet zeggen,” a police spokesperson said.
Officers are urging anyone who may have seen a man matching the suspect’s description near the care facility on Friday evening to come forward. They are especially interested in speaking with walkers who were in the area at the time.
