Twente hits 32.3°C, breaking national heat record for June 14

Twente recorded the hottest June 14 in Dutch history on Saturday, with temperatures climbing to 32.3 degrees, weeronline reported. The reading surpassed the previous national record of 31.7 degrees, set in Eelde in 1980.

By 2:50 p.m., the temperature in Twente had already reached 31.8 degrees, officially breaking the 44-year-old record. The mercury continued to rise throughout the afternoon. Much of eastern Netherlands experienced tropical conditions, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees.

In De Bilt, home to the country’s main weather station, the high reached only 27.3 degrees. The date-specific record for De Bilt—30.3 degrees—reportedly remained intact due to early cloud cover that limited daytime heating.

On Sunday, temperatures are expected to cool significantly, ranging from 19 to 20 degrees along the coast and on the Wadden Islands, and between 22 and 24 degrees farther inland, with the warmest readings expected in the southeast.

The weather will remain dry after the weekend, with prolonged sunshine expected. Highs on Monday will range from 20 to 23 degrees. According to the forecasts, the remainder of the week, daytime temperatures will generally stay between 21 and 26 degrees. A new warm spell may develop toward the end of the week.
