Two men from Rotterdam and Nieuwer Ter Aa identified as victims of Vinkeveen car crash

The victims found in a car in Vinkeveen that had driven into the water were 27-year-old men from Rotterdam and Nieuwer Ter Aa. Police have stated that the car had likely ended up in the water at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

A passerby saw the car in the water on the Ter Aase Zuwe in Vinkeveen at around 10:35 a.m. on Thursday. No details about the incident have been released, with police still in the midst of the investigation. According to RTV Utrecht, There are clear skid marks on the road, leading to a flattened area on the verge, with tire tracks in the ground.

A nearby resident said that relatives of the victims came by to lay red roses and candles by the scene of the accident. The resident said that they had heard a loud bang at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The man and his neighbor had gone outside to search the area but could not see any traces of an accident.

The woman of the home had searched her garden for any signs. She admitted to feeling guilty about not having walked out on the road to look for any skid marks. “Perhaps the occupants could have still been resuscitated,” she told RTV Utrecht.

The front end and wheels of the car involved suggest that the car is either a Skoda Octavia 4 Sportline or vRS model, the latter having a more powerful capable of reaching 100 km/h in under 6.5 seconds.
