Getting married at a town hall more expensive throughout the Netherlands in 2025

Couples who plan to get married at a town hall will pay more in 2025 than the previous year. A wedding ceremony at a town hall on a Friday afternoon will cost an average of 499 euros throughout the country, which is a slight increase compared to 2024 when it cost 478 euros. This was reported by ThePerfectWedding.nl, which collected all the fees from each municipality.

The fees for a wedding ceremony at the town hall differ significantly per municipality. The most expensive location is in Leeuwarden, where you spend over 1,070 euros for a wedding ceremony. In Harlingen, which is the same province of Friesland, you pay under 250 euros. The cheapest location is in Voerendaal, Limburg, you can get married for 236 euros at the town hall.

Friday is a popular day for weddings. You often pay more to get married on this day than on other midweek days. For example, in Delft, you pay just over 500 euros to get married in midweek, while you pay 690 euros to get married on Friday at the town hall. Prices increase further in the weekend. A ceremony on Sunday at the same municipality costs over 2,300 euros.

Since 1897 there has been a law that makes it obligator for municipalities to offer a free wedding. Therefore, it is possible to get married for free at all the municipalities, but due to the popularity of this and the limited available time slots the waiting list is very long.
