Extinction Rebellion blocks A12 again in The Hague, frustrating drivers
Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists have once again blocked the A12 highway in The Hague on Sunday. At around noon, approximately 30 protesters walked onto the Utrechtsebaan, obstructing traffic heading out of the city, according to De Telegraaf.
The action was reportedly met with frustration from various drivers, some of whom expressed their anger by gesturing from their cars. One motorist was seen raising her middle finger through the open window in response to the disruption. Police were present at the scene but did not intervene immediately.
This latest protest comes just a day after XR staged a similar blockade on Saturday. The protest, which involved around 500 activists, caused significant traffic delays. Authorities detained the majority of the demonstrators, though most were released shortly after.
XR's ongoing demonstrations are driven by opposition to fossil fuel subsidies, which the group claims incentivize companies to continue using fossil fuels. The activists argue that these subsidies contribute to rapid climate change, and they are demanding action to address the issue.
