Temps set to rise from -5°C overnight to 17°C by Friday afternoon
A significant shift in weather is set to take place in the Netherlands, with temperatures soaring from below freezing to a mild spring warmth within just a few days. The transition, which will see a 25-degree difference from the coldest point of the week to the warmest, is expected to offer a stark contrast between winter and early spring.
Temperatures in the Netherlands dipped to freezing levels on Tuesday night, with some areas experiencing a "feels-like" temperature as low as -13 degrees. Volkel, for instance, saw temperatures feel like nearly -13 degrees. The day started off with sunny weather but chilly conditions, especially in the morning when temperatures hovered around the freezing mark. A moderate eastern wind contributed to the cold, making it feel colder than the actual temperature.
By Friday, however, the weather will turn dramatically warmer, with daytime temperatures climbing to 18 degrees in the southern parts of the country, a far cry from the -7 degrees experienced the previous night. This temperature spike is part of a broader pattern, as mild southerly winds bring much warmer air into the region. Despite the warmth, the day will also feature some high, thin clouds that will limit the amount of sunshine at times.
On Thursday, an influx of mild air will push temperatures to between 8 degrees in the north and 12 degrees in the south, along with light rain and drizzle. This marks the arrival of significantly milder air masses, with temperatures continuing to climb into the weekend. The shift is due to a warm front, and the transition will be quite apparent to anyone stepping outside.
Friday is expected to be the warmest day of the week. Maximum temperatures will range from 13 to 15 degrees in the north and possibly reach 17 degrees in the southern parts. If the temperature in De Bilt reaches 15 degrees, it would mark the first official spring day of 2025. There is currently a 60 percent chance of this, and a 90 percent likelihood that at least one area will experience the warmth needed to officially qualify as a spring day.
