Geert Wilders shows support for Donald Trump's plan to resettle Palestinians in Jordan

Dutch far-right political leader Geert Wilders spoke out on Wednesday in support of a plan put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump that calls for Palestinians to leave the Gaza Strip. Wilders heads up the PVV, the largest of four parties in the governing coalition in the Netherlands.

Trump said during a press conference Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States will “take over and own” the Gaza Strip once the Palestinians are gone. He believes Palestinians from Gaza should be permanently resettled in other countries.

"Very true, President Trump! as I always said: Jordan= Palestine. Let Palestinians move to Jordan. Gaza-problem solved!" said Wilders on X.

The Cabinet came out against the notion that the Gaza Strip would fall under American authority. Foreign Affairs Minister Caspar Veldkamp, from coalition partner NSC, previously stated that he is against the forced deportation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. His position has not changed, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.

"For the Netherlands, there is no doubt: Gaza belongs to the Palestinians," the minister said. "Our position is and remains unchanged," Veldkamp stated. "The Netherlands supports a two-state solution. That means an independent, viable Palestinian state alongside a safe Israel."

Shortly after the Cabinet took office, Veldkamp was forced to reassure the Jordanian government after a similar tweet from Wilders was published on X in July. At the time, Wilders stated that Jordan is “the only real Palestinian state.”

This led to anger in Amman. Veldkamp then emphasized to his Jordanian counterpart that the Netherlands supports the two-state solution.
